R.M. Colt writes character-driven science fiction about humanity’s first steps into a larger universe—and the political, technological, and personal consequences that follow.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, private pilot, sailor, and longtime storyteller, Colt brings a lifelong interest in aviation, space, technology, and human behavior to his fiction. After an early career in radio and television production, he spent more than twenty-five years in the technology industry, first as an entrepreneur and later in corporate America. That experience gave him a firsthand view of how rapidly advancing technology can reshape organizations, challenge established institutions, and force people to make decisions before the consequences are fully understood.

Those questions lie at the heart of Colt’s science fiction. His stories explore what happens when people, governments, and institutions suddenly gain capabilities they were never designed to manage. Leadership, responsibility, ambition, loyalty, and the unintended consequences of progress all play central roles in his work.

His Terran Accord series explores a near-future humanity confronting first contact, rapid technological change, and the difficult transition from a divided planet to a civilization capable of taking its place among the stars. Against that larger backdrop, the series remains focused on the people living through that transformation—the pilots, scientists, engineers, physicians, diplomats, and leaders forced to make consequential decisions in circumstances for which there is no precedent.

Colt’s background in radio and television production also continues to influence his storytelling, particularly his emphasis on strong characters, natural dialogue, visual scenes, and narratives that keep moving without losing the quieter human moments that give those events meaning.

A lifelong love of the ocean—and a persistent desire to be on or near the water—eventually drew Colt and his wife, Carol, to coastal North Carolina, where they now make their home.
